His first dances were in CA last year and now he is taking it on the road to NC FL CA and Arizona to dance for pet adoption. The Humane Society of the United States presented their 25th Genesis Awards last week at which they honor members of the media who create film television and programing which elevates or helps saves animals or brings attention to issues we can help with. Here Ryan O'Neal and I are on the Red Carpet talking about the awesomeness of dog adoption. Smiley is my giant adopted mutt and Ryan just adopted a dog from Best Friends that I brought to him. Thank you Humane Society US and Best Friends for all you do for animals. At Genesis Oprah won for her shows about dolphins in captivity and about puppy mills. Super Smiley Trains with HOPE Animal Assisted Crises Response Megan Hearts Pets Megan Blake - blog

Smiley and I were so excited and honored to participate in the HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response evaluation and training in Atlanta last week. The HOPE K-9 teams go into crisis areas like Katrina 9/11 or schools where shootings have occurred and provide comfort to the affected people. The dogs help relax the people and often encourage them to talk or open up when humans can't. Animals are very special souls that connect with us on a deep energy level. At the training we worked with the Fire Station in Alpharetta rode the MARTA tram and subway got on a plane at the Airport trained with sirens and reenacted disaster scenarios. I am soooo proud of Smiley and of all the new HOPE dogs. Thank you HOPE for providing this service to people and for this opportunity to share our dogs' healing spirits. Tomorrow Super Zoo opens in Las Vegas! It's a national trade show for pet retailers and I will be there to see All the new products. Can't wait! There will be over 9000 pet professionals there so can you imagine all the products I am going to discover! Woof from Smiley! The photo here is from the Luxury Pet Pavilion in Atlanta where many new products were also debuted. Check out that cool dog/kitty house autumn the dog picnic tent and bamboo leash and coat. I will have many more new discoveries this week from Vegas. And the little dog here in the pic Atlanta is a puppy mill mother who spent her entire 10 years in a cage and was rescued that week by Tammy Hansen one of the Luxury Pet Pavilion execs. Love that! Beautiful stories and great things for our pets. What do you want me to look for tomorrow? If you can't think of anything ask your dog or cat. They always have something to say. :

Daniel Aspanall after not seeing his gorilla friend for 5 years after returning him to the wild reunites with him in the jungle. Danielgrew up in a family who worked with exotic animals with the goal of placing them back into the wild and saving their natural living spaces.His Gorilla friend now has wives and children. Here is the actual reunion footage. Guardian and Spirit my 15 year companions were taken by cancer and it would be perfect if dogs helped us find the cause and cure. Luke Robinson is walking across the US with his 2 Great Pyrenees to bring awareness to Canine Cancer. I posted this 2x. The first time it didn't play and this one works I interviewed them here and Luke gives a great snapshot of their adventure. Even if you only have time to watch a minute or two it is really interesting. We later met in NY at the Westminster festivities.... Then they asked Smiley and me to join their walk. Guardian and Spirit were very important members of my pack who succumbed to cancer and passed away three days from one another after fifteen years of life with us. So Smiley and I are really honored to walk for our Guardian and Spirit. I am leaving Saturday for Baltimore and we are getting Smiley's plans settled. We will keep you posted! Luke finishes his journey June in Boston. Everyone is invited! You can come walk the last mile! What do you think?

Happy Easter!! We hope you are having a beautiful inspired weekend celebrating the wonders of Spring and renewal. Yesterday KZIN in Great Falls MT WSTC in Norwalk CT and Pet Tails Magazine talked with Smiley and me about his Happy Campaign pet advice and also about the Easter chicks ducks and bunnies for sale now. We know all of you here are responsible pet stewards so here are a few things to share with someone else who may be tempted by such an impulse purchase. These baby animals are very fragile and need extra special care to survive. Temperature control for them is very important and that is something that is often completely overlooked. Bunnies require as much vet care and attention as a dog to thrive and they ideally should be kept inside and trained to use a litter box. And baby chicks and ducklings don't make good pets for children because they shed salmonella. But If you are up for giving a Forever Home to a "spring baby" and know what to provide for them then Easter can be a wonderful day to celebrate your new arrival and welcome them as a new family member - not just as a decoration. DogNewsDaily.com Presented a Pawsotively Wonderful Seder dinner for dogs in honor of Passover. it was an interdenominational event benefiting Best Friends Animal Society and sweet sweet shelter doggies were there for adoption. www.BestFriends.org Canine Guests were given Yarmulkes to wear and Super Smiley loved his!

In keeping with the event's theme Alan of DogNewsDaily mentioned how as Jewish lives were saved during Passover they hoped this event would contribute to saving the lives of shelter dogs. The dogs enjoyed sitting at the tables with their human companions and snacking on salmon treats yummy natural dog food donated by Evangers and lapping up Petrol the liquid treat filled with dog supplements and nutrition. Remember Romeo and Juliet did a favorable taste test for Petrol here on Megan Hearts Pets. And Super Smiley liked it too!

America's Next Top Model NIgel Barker says he will take Canada's Prime Minister on a personal tour of the Seal Nurseries if he calls off the seal hunt. Sounds great to me! No one buys fur any more and think of all the tourism money Canada could make giving tours to see the cutest babies on earth. The Humane Society of the US has thought of some more things we can tell him we will do if he calls off the hunt. How about buying a lifetime supply of Maple Syrup? Or buying Canadian seafood? Or taking a cruise to Vancouver? Imagine being in a beautiful ballroom with the most dedicated and fearless warriors for animals and that is what it is like to be at the Genesis Awards presented by the Humane Society of the US. The Genesis Awards honors media film TV print that brings animal issues to light. The Cove won for best documentary. If you haven't heard about it these are the now Academy Award wining undercover investigators who in Japan risked their lives for shining light on the dolphin trapping and slaughter in Japan's "Cove." www.TheCoveMovie.com

Lots of amazing products green and healthy things for dogs... Festival guests danced along.. Dick Van Patten actor and founder of Natural Balance dog food was there. Most of his proceeds go to help dogs! We love that! Thank you Mr. Van Patten!!

Here's the Super Smiley Dance update: Smiley is launching his Happy Campaign for Throw Away Dogs with his Smiley Dance for Throw Away Dogs this Sunday 11:00 at Woofstock in Beverly Hills. Woofstock is a really cool annual dog festival held at Roxbury Park 471 S. Roxbury Dr. a few blocks South of Wilshire. He will have his Smiley Dancers there and we will be teaching the dance and you can get a head start learning it here from the video. AND if you aren't in LA you can tape it and send us your Smiley video!!! If you upload it here on Megan Hearts Pets be sure to let us know. Best Friends hosted a beautiful gallery showing of Pits and Perception in Los Angeles Saturday. the paintings were created by one of the Best Friends Sanctuary founders! And I am going to Dog Town Today!!!!!! Smiley loved the gala even though he is not a pit he was representing his power breed brothers and sisters. They are gentle souls. Did you know that in the early and mid 1900's they were known as the Nanny Dog? and on the classic black and white TV series from the early 1960's Spanky and Our Gang the little kids ran around with a cute cute dog.... a pit bull.

Here he is. One of the original founders of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Be sure to tune into Dog Town on Nat Geo and they have told me there is no cell reception or internet up there so I won't be posting for a few days again!! I will miss you but know I am loving the angels at Dog Town!!!!

Best Friends has created the Puppies Aren't Products campaign and hosts peaceful protests to stop the selling of puppy mill pups at pet stores. The stores can adopt the new business model of selling shelter dogs. Orange Bone in LA does that and they are our heroes! And that day a puppy mill store closed its doors in LA! Yea!! Smiley is Smiling! And hey to Loretta and Lindsay in the photo here. Lindsay is a team leader for Best Friends and both are friends of Smiley's here on Megan ♥s Pets! New York Westminster Dog Show and Angels on a Leash Trip Megan Hearts Pets

I flew to New York to go to the Angel on a Leash and the Westminster Dog Show Activities but before getting on the Red Eye in LA Smiley stopped by the Red Carpet with me for the opening of the Animal Wellness Center in Santa Monica operated by wonderful Dr. Annie. Wayne Pacelle CEO of the Humane Society US was there and spoke at the event. It was very impresive and Smiley was a hit and gave me a Red Carpet send off. But you know what all our pets give us Red Carpet send offs and Welcomes! Did your companion do something special for you when you got home today?

In NY the pre-Westminster party was hosted by Pet a Potty and Hudson and Murphey were there with their steward Luke Robinson. The trio are walking across the US to bring awareness to canine cancer. They have walked over 1800 miles and the goal is 2000 in one year. They invited me to walk a week with them!!! I am soooooo excited. It will happen in April! Uno. former Best in Show winner and David Frei the President of Angels on a Leash therapy dogs and Director of Communications for the Westminster Show who is the voice and announcer we see during the television broadcast. He is the kindest dearest man. He says his therapy dogs are angels. That is true but he is their guardian angel. You know all our dogs are therapy dogs. We come home and they help us relax and smile. And we know they are angels with fur.

Former Best In Show winner Rufus! Loved him!!! Too bad he wouldn't fit in my purse he would have been on the way to Malibu! Shhhhhhh don't tell Smiley! There is just something special about dogs that makes you want to get on the floor and kiss them even if you are wearing a black sequined cocktail dress. You know what I mean?

The guys from Rescue Ink on National Geographic were at the kick off party for The Westminster Dog Show and The Angel on a Leash festivities in New York City. And THEY ROCK! They put their hearts and souls and a lot of muscle into rescuing and defending animals. Smiley and I are huge fans and 8 is truly my lucky number because we were all seated together at table number 8! Rescue Ink rescues all types of animals not just dogs and cats. Smiley went to a Pre-Grammy party hosted by world famous entertainment law firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp. Smiley has a music video out for Throw Away Dogs and was happy to share the love with the other celebrities and musicians. Sean McEnroe Ryan O'Neal Brandon Thomas of American Voodoo Records singer Lynda Kay Team Smiley from the Levine Communications Office and the beautiful flamenco dancer Liliana de Leon and composer Peter Torciello were sharing the love with The Smile. A baby mini only a few days old gives me a mini kiss! Did you get your pet kiss today? These baby minis are so new that they stick right by their mini mamas but if you get down on the ground they come over to closely investigate what you are. They kiss and nip to get as much info on you as they can. Soooooooooo cute. Animals help lower our blood pressure slow our heart rate and here's my technical observation: they increase our happy chemicals. And getting a kiss from a new born mini is about as happy a gift as I could have received. Everyone is welcomed to go see the minis at the QuickSilver Ranch above Santa Barbara but only serious buyers can roll around on the ground with them. Kiss your animals for me and have a Super Smiley day! Oh and PS.... Today I am going to the Grammys and Smiley is going to the Grammy pre-party!

Pet Expo USA and Go Green Expo Were Great!! Megan Hearts Pets

Pet Expo USA joined with the Go Green Expo in LA to show all the cool green healthy things for pets. I interviewed Animal Planet's Pit Boss Shorty and met his pit Napoleon. And I talked with Mackenzie Phillips Linda Blair who has a huge rescue/rehabilitation organization and Travis and Presley the winners of CBS's Greatest American Dog. And the coolest thing is that there were so many rescue supporters there! A great expo!!! Everyone there really loves their dogs and had so much to share!This video is a really fast look at the show and I am looking forward to sharing the in depth interviews very soon. Be sure to tune into Animal Planet Saturdays at 10 PM to catch Pit Boss - one of Smiley's favorite shows!! Tout Suite The Travel Kitty and I are flying to LA tomorrow giving us over 110000 miles together! And we've learned a lot in all these travels. You have to make an airline reservation for your pet in advance and there is a charge of around 100.00 one way depending upon the airline. You have to make the reservation on the phone for your pet not the internet and no more sitting in the bulkhead! Your cabin pet has to fit under the seat in front of you so your pet travel bag has to fit within FAA regulation size which is usually around 10x11x19 but be sure to confirm the size with the airline you are flying. No curbside checkin. You have to go in and stand in line so allow plenty of time. And when you get to security kitty or pup comes out of the bag! So prepare for this. Remove your shoes coats computers jewelry etc first then take your pet out of his little condo. Don't get caught with the cat out of the bag! Imagine the bag gone away through the x ray machine and now you have to take everything off while holding a cat. Yikes!!!!!!!!!! And before you fly get your pet used to his bag. Put one of your worn T-shirts in the bag and let your pet go in naturally. Or if he doesn't wander in put him in calmly and don't close the door. Let him smell your shirt and go out calmly. Then when they are in travel mode the bag will be their safe little condo. So after airport security they will just hop right back into their safe spot. I am going to Dog Town! Dog Town is Best Friend's amazing animal sanctuary in Utah that takes in those who Smiley calls the Throw Aways. This is truly the last stop. And they make sure that once an animal gets there "nothing bad ever happens to them again." On any day they may have 1700 animals and Nat Geo shares their amazing rescue and rehabilitation work on the series Dog Town airing at 10PM tonight. Their sanctuary and work is unprecedented. All have a forever home there or find new perfect placement and families. Their work is awesome! We love Best Friends and Dog Town. Hi we are Romeo and Juliet and Megan brought us some Petrol to try. She said it's a new dog treat. You drink it. I don't like a lot of things but I pushed Juliet out of the way because it was goooood and my person had to bring us another bowl because I wanted my own! Woof! And Megan says a vet made this drink with dog vitamins and good things and its good for us to drink on hot days. Happy Healthy Pets! I love meeting new pet product creators to learn what's new that can improve our lives so yesterday I drove to Charlotte to meet the creators of Petrol a new liquid dog treat filled with vitamins and supplements. It was developed by a veterinarian nutritionist who specializes in developing nutrition for pets. Very specialized - There are only 100 of them!!! Keeps your dog hydrated delivers the nutrition - sounds great! Smiley is looking forward to taste testing it but I am in NC and he is in Malibu so I am going to wrangle Romeo across the street or Zeus next door for a "palatability test." That is the official lingo. We will let you know!!! Oh and Jan 23 -24 is the big Go Green Expo in LA where lots of Pet Products will be presented. I will be there with Dog's Life Magazine and Four Legged Friends Foundation and will let you know what I find. Come see us there! And Romeo or Zeus will be reporting tomorrow!!!

So here's how I roll: and this is good for you too so add to the NYR new years resolutions: Get some rest and chill! Play big. Smile big. Sleep hard. Take a run. Take a nap. Take care of your friends. Help groom them. In people maybe that means take them to a spa. Did you see Angel's pic on Face Book? Her new Ear Doo was Sweeet after I rearranged them! Compliment your pack! Appreciate them. Sit as close to them as you can and look at them in the eyes and smile. When you are learning something put all of your focus on it and do it great. And when you are tired and your brain can't hold anymore don't torture yourself just fall over and take a nap on the floor. Enjoy everything. What you see feel and smell. Use all your senses. Find the special people you can trust and trust them completely. It is so simple. Keep it simple. We rescue them but they save our hearts.Anyone who has rescued an animal knows the gratitude and faith they show.Happy ending inspirational volunteers and horses determined to survive. The Humane Society of the United States rescue crew of volonteers led by Puppy Mill Enemy 1 Scotlund Hailsey was instrumental in saving over 80 starving neglected horses in Tennessee. Now they are wearing warm blankets getting food and vet care and some are even becoming a bit feisty after being so weak they couldn't stand. Thank you Scotlund and HSUS for what you do. Starfire in the photo with Mini Ha Ha despite being a 3 year old purebred with a double world champion bloodline was once starved abused and sick with a mange-like infection. What are your Dog's New Years' Resolutions? To Smile and Laugh more and to remember to Play and find Balance in life? To be Healthy and get in his best shape ever. Sounds like things dogs do naturally but if any of these sound like your resolutions have no fear your dog is here! Your best friend can help you with all of these. Smiley Smiles Big Plays Big Grounds me and reminds me to not take things too seriously. And he suggests walking for an hour a day. Wait! Don't freak out! If you are thinking "There is no way I have an hour a day to walk my dog" imagine this. What if you walked your dog for 15 minutes in the morning 15 when you got home 15 after dinner and maybe 15 more. If this just isn't doable it's OK. This is to make it better for you not more stressful. Imagine when your dog needs to go out for a bathroom break instead of just letting him out or walking him to a spot and standing and waiting try walking for 15 - briskly. Breath deeply as you walk. Is he smiling? Are you smiling? Getting exercise burning calories breathing bonding with your dog. This is a Good Win Win! Angel and Smiley would love to do it with you too. Stand for the Wild Horses Across the US this week

Do you love horses? Starfire here is one of the loves of my life. Wild horses have been a symbol of the United States since its birth. Actress Wendy Malik supermodel Tatjana Patitz and other celebrities will stand for the Wild Horses at a peaceful rally against The Bureau of Land Management's horse capture which begins Jan 15th. The rally is at Senator Diane Feinstein's office at 11111 Wilshire Blvd LA from 11AM to 1PM Jan 6. For other such horse rallies across the US seewww.AmericanWildHorsePreservation.com . Starfire was abused and headed to slaughter when we met. We have been companions for over 15 years. If you love horses consider standing for them.

Dances with Wolves

Dancing with Spirit at Big Oaks Wolf Sanctuary in Florida. Wolves have a crystal clear and very specific language and I have LOVED LOVED every second I have been able to spend with the pack and learn from them. Since dogs are their direct descendants wolves can teach us so much about dog communication. Learning directly from wolves is going to the Real Source.
